Art Authority App Reviews

Decent but limited

This app delivers a good overview of art collected into its major periods. The interface is easy to use. I had expected more and better functionality given its significantly higher than average price. Each piece of art is downloaded from the Internet each time as required. I would have liked to have seen the apps selected "overview" pieces included automatically. This also means that things can be slow: I was looking for a particular Rembrandt painting. It took four minutes for the large number of Rembrandt thumbnail sketches to download so I could find the one I wanted. There is no index of painting names. Thus I cannot use this app to look up a specific painting referenced in a book I am reading. I might want to compare how different artists handle the portrayal of David and Goliath but there is no way to do so. Having found a painting of interest, there is no "tell me more" function. Instead, there seems to be of a link to Wikipedia about the art movement of that time period or an app-specific link to information about the artist. In short, the app offers some value relative to reading Wikipedia or googling an artists name but not as much as it should.

Please fix as soon as possible.

There are some visual glitches while using the app. Some visual components of the app, like the icons on the home screen are low definition, which looks ugly. Finally, please change this awful logo of the app!

Mr.

Complete and very interesting and useful app, contents Are organized in periods and styles! Great job

THE DEFINITIVE ART APP

AMAZING....EXHAUSTIVE.....WONDERFUL....ART LOVERS REJOICE... A TERRIFIC COLLECTION

Same as Art Envi!

Dont get suckered into buying this if you already have Art Envi; they appear to be the same. This is NOT the iPad version!

Fix the crashing

This app crashes more than any other app I have ever bought. This must be fixed, or it was a total waste of $5

I LOVE ART AUTHORITY

I was a little skeptical based on some reviews but I bought this anyway Im so glad cause it works perfectly for me on my iPhone. I love how the "shows" work. I also appreciate the tutorials and all the immense work these developers took on to bring this to us. Getting information on a painting or artist is smooth and quick. I was wary of the resolution but the paintings look great here even when I zoom in. Plus the library of artists is HUGE and I like how the artists are grouped into time periods and movements. Very organized. Im gonna use this app alot! Best art history app on iTunes. However, one of my favorite painters, Alice Neel, is a glaring omission. Her figurative and portrait work, besides being brilliant, was very rebellious in the 50s through the 70s when Expressionism and Pop Art made painting the figure unfashionable. She should be included in this app. When shes added Ill give this 6 stars.

Fantastic App for art lovers - Chris

I just bought this app for my Mac as well. It allows me to refresh my knowledge especially for the time line. I hope there will be updates that will bring the missing paintings. I love it. I recommend it. I was hoping for an App like this. Thank you.

My mini museum!

Love this app! Anyone who appeciates the arts will definetly find this useful. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because there isnt a search feature, and one of my favorite artists, Thomas Hart-Benton, isnt included. Im sure he will be eventually, then I can give if the 5 stars it deserves :)

Art Authority

Marvelous! I might never again buy an art book. Excellent cross-section of artists and their works. A great way to visit many art galleries inexpensively.

What about photography?

I like this app a lot.... but is photography not art? Wheres Henri Cartier-Bresson?

FANTASTIC

I love this app, its great, & it was a great study guide for my AP Art History class!!! I just wish there was more prehistoric art and modern artists!

Rated "0" for deceit

This appears exactly the same as Art Envi. They never tell you that it is...nor do they tell you it isnt. Instead they entice you to spend your dollars 2x on the same app with different names. Apple should do something about this.

Clarity of images could be better

Lovely collection. Sadly, some of the images suffer in quality and clarity of detail and their coloring is vastly different from the originals.

Good quality for iPhone 4

Some pictures not optimized for iPhone screen but overall quality is pretty good. Nice selection & interface is simple. Not disappointed in spending the money & can browse a huge selection.

Great App for Art Lovers

I like this app very much but it would be nice if you could quickly search by the name of the art piece. And also fast fwd >>| to the end of each show the way you can go back to the beginning |<<.

Unbearably poor quality!

The quality of the images is unbearable. Its an iphone for Gods sake, not a 46 inch plasma. I would expect that at least on a 4 inch to see an image without seeing the pixels. In fact, the pixels are so big that it takes away a large part of the joy of viewing representations of paintings. And remember, this is painting, where color and detail make the whole difference. I understand that this is an iphone and that the resolution is optimized for it. But it is not optimized. The quality is well below what is even acceptable. It does not take a large amount of pixels to have a clear image on an iphone. This app fails utterly at what it tries to accomplish, which is give some pleasure to the user without frustration Dont waste your money!

Art Authority iPhone

This App is like having multiple art museums in your pocket. The potential to explore artists from many different time periods and schools is simply amazing. Recommend highly.
